Now, Mike and Matt will be moving forward to the biggest game of their young careers - the 2019 PBA Draft.
The Ateneo lifers officially filed their application to the rookie selection process early Wednesday morning.
Of course, they were only overjoyed to be at the doorstep of turning their dream into reality. ”Siyempre, we’re very excited. It’s gonna be a new atmosphere for us,” Mike said.
He then continued, “We’re just gonna promise to the team that drafts us that we’ll give it our best all the time just like that we did in Ateneo.”
Matt was of the same mind. “Super excited namin kasi ever since, ito na goal namin,” he said.
Matt, the steady court general who steered the Blue Eaglets to a three-peat, is a surefire first round selection. He put up per game counts of 7.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals last season.
Mike could also go as high as Round 1 after serving as the captain of the ship in the past years for the fully loaded blue and white. The dominant, but undersized big man turned 3-and-D wing put up per game counts of 4.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists last season.
Wherever they end up, the Nietos have one guarantee - to put all they have gotten from Tab Baldwin and the Katipunan-based school to good use. “I will work harder so I can achieve more so I can make Ateneo and Coach Tab proud and para rin lahat ng tinuro nila sa akin, mag-pay off,” Matt said.
He then continued, “Para rin ‘to makita ng mga maiiwan sa Ateneo na kailangan lang nilang pagkatiwalaan si Coach Tab kasi siya magdadala sa kanila sa pro league.”
Mike could only agree. “We as Ateneans promise that we will still exemplify the values that we learned in our beloved school and we will do our best to make them proud,” he said.
