Javi Gomez de Liano has set his sights on a different fight for the Philippines.
Javi GDL will not be part of the University of the Philippines’ roster for UAAP Season 83 and will instead turn his attention to giving his all for Gilas Pilipinas.
“I want to focus full-time on Gilas,” he said, voicing his complete commitment to the national team program after he finally broke through into the pool.
The sweet-shooting wing is a homegrown product of the Maroons’ revitalized program - and transformed himself from a double-double machine in the Jrs. into an all-around weapon in the Srs.
He put up per game counts of 10.5 points, including a 35 percent shooting clip from deep, to go along with 3.0 rebounds in his fourth year in maroon and white.
That end-to-end effort will be much-welcome for the Gilas program which is hoping to establish itself from the ground up with young guns.
As for his fifth and final season for State U, Javi GDL acknowledged that he remains open for a return in the coming years.
At just 21-years-old, he can use his last year of eligibility in any of the next four seasons.
