Far Eastern University-Diliman remains undefeated in the UAAP 82 Boys Basketball Tournament - up against all but one team, that is.
The second-seeded Baby Tamaraws took care of business opposite fourth-seeded Adamson High School, Friday to make their way back into their first Finals since winning it all in 2017.
"Siyempre, masaya kaming nakabalik kami sa Finals despite 11 players ang nag-graduate sa amin last year," a beaming head coach Allan Albano said, talking about his team that overcame the graduation of RJ Abarrientos, Royce Alforque, and Xyrus Torres, among others.
Replacing most of the roster was, of course, a tall task, but Coach Allan felt fortunate to have found ready replacements in the likes of playmaker Penny Estacio and bruiser Mark Padrones as well as improving Cholo Anonuevo and Jorick Bautista.
Even so, FEU-Diliman remains the underdog up against Nazareth School of National University which is on pace for a season sweep.
In the elimination round, the Bullpups dominated both match-ups opposite the Baby Tams - 49-64 in the first round and 73-80 in the second round.
And so, FEU-Diliman is 0-2 up against National U - while, for comparison, they are 13-0 against the other six squads.
The good news for the green and gold, however, is that they have one week to get themselves at 100 percent for the best-of-three Finals. "At least, meron kaming one week preparation against NU," their mentor said as Game 1 is scheduled for next Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
As they prepare for the defending champions who are fully loaded, the Baby Tams said they will only control what they can control - themselves. As Estacio put it, "Hindi kami nagfo-focus sa kanila. Nagfo-focus kami sa amin."
