The UAAP Season 82 volleyball tournaments finally open Tuesday at the MOA Arena after a two-week delay.

The quest for the title starts for each of the eight teams in the men's and women's divisions. That also means that the challenge system is officially in effect in the UAAP.

For the new season, the league has finally adopted a challenge system, which could prove crucial especially when games go down the wire.

Coaches already love the idea, saying it's "about time" that the UAAP has a challenge system.

For what it's worth, the newly-installed system will keep the games honest.

"Yung tipong hindi siya judgmental. Yung mga technical, like lines... magkakaroon na ng justice," Ateneo women's head coach Oliver Almadro said.

Almadro's Lady Eagles are this season's defending champions. Their title defense starts Wednesday.

"Walang tsamba ngayon. Everything will be on camera. Everything will be challenged," Coach O added.

Only the Philippine Super Liga has a challenge system in the country and the UAAP will adopt the similar system, which was also utilized during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Almadro says those with prior experience with the challenge system will naturally have the edge, but ultimately, the new system will force everyone to step up their respective games.

"They have an advantage because they are more accurate, they are more precise with their actions because they know that even as single mistake can be challenged," Almadro said.

"The competition, the way of playing, will level up because of the challenge system. You have to practice more, lahat ng gagawin mo may precision na talaga," he added.
