Lycha Ebon was not on the court as Far Eastern University bowed out of contention in last year’s UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
In the Final Four, they succumbed to eventual champion Ateneo de Manila University and their then-super rookie would have been a huge help.
Unfortunately, Ebon had already missed six games before that - and in all, was sidelined for the Lady Tamaraws’ last seven matches due to a season-ending knee injury.
All of that is now the fuel to the already burning fire of the second-year spiker. “Excited po akong matutulungan ko na po ulit sina ate sa loob ng court. Last year kasi, ‘di ko natapos yung UAAP,” she said.
Help out FEU, Ebon did as she scored nine points in their straight sets victory versus University of the East to start the new season.
Of course, the 19-year-old could only acknowledge that injury remains on her mind, but also assured the green and gold that she will always power through it. “Siguro nga po, mayroon pang konting (takot), pero ‘di ako magpapadala dun,” she said.
Indeed, Ebon only vowed to never let head coach George Pascua down. “Binigyan ako ng chance ni coach na patunayan ang sarili ko kaya ibibigay ko lang lagi yung best ko,” he said.
