The FEU Lady Tamaraws lost some heavy hitters like Jerrili Malabanan, Heather Guino-o, and Celine Domingo from their UAAP Season 81 team that went to the Final Four.
However, FEU looks like it's still in great shape as the Season 82 women's volleyball tournament kicked off Tuesday at the MOA Arena.
Team captain and setter Gel Cayuna wasn't short of options in FEU's three-set sweep of UE Tuesday as all eight players eligible ended up scoring at least two points for the Lady Tamaraws, with two attackers in double figures.
Cayuna was steady in facilitating opportunities for her teammates, leading to 18 excellent sets.
"Lahat naman kasi pinagkakatiwalaan ko," Cayuna said.
"Nag-double effort talaga ako para mapunan yung pagkukulang [as setter]. Nandiyan naman yung mga teammates ko, tinutulungan din nila ako kaya hindi rin ganun kahirap sakin na mag-adjust," she added.
Cayuna's trust on her teammates pretty much stems from the team's own trust in her as FEU's new leader.
It's a big responsibility in leading the UAAP's winningest program and Cayuna can continue to prove herself with her play.
"As a leader, kailangan maging effective ka in action. Siya yung playmaker, kailangan siya mismo ang matibay ang loob, para yung mga kasama niya, nandiyan to support her," head coach George Pascua said on Cayuna.
"Lahat ng mga bagay na apparent sa isang leader, nakita ko sa kanya. Kaya niya nadadala," he added.
