After a two-year absence, EJ Laure took the court for University of Santo Tomas in a UAAP game as the Golden Tigresses opened Season 82 Wednesday at the MOA Arena.
EJ showed little to no rust, finishing with 17 points for the Golden Tigresses.
It would have been a fitting homecoming if not for the NU Lady Bulldogs spoiling the fun with a gusty five-set victory in team captain Risa Sato's own return to the UAAP.
"Fell short, pero syempre babangon pa rin," EJ said in her first game back.
"Pinaghaandan ko talaga to, nag-double time ako. Lumabas lang kung ano pinaghirapan ko," she added.
Laure coming back gives UST an instant replacement as a leader following MVP Sisi Rondina's graduation after last year's Finals run.
As the Golden Tigresses stumble out of the gate in Season 82, EJ is taking the responsibility to make sure her team remains on the right track.
"Syempre lahat sila kinakabahn kasi first game, UAAP na. Syempre as an ate sa kanila, di ko papakita na kinakabahan din ako. Mas nile-lead ko sila," EJ said.
"Ngayon, para ma-realize muna yung mga pagkukulang nila. Siguro, bukas na kao magsasabi sa kanila and itatama kung ano nakikita kong mali," Laure added.
