University of Sto. Tomas bounced back mightily from an opening day loss as the Tigresses vented their ire on hapless Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-16, 25-18, Sunday in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
Sister Eya and EJ Laure wreaked havoc on offense combining for 22 attack points to highlight the Tigresses first win of the season. UST joined its victim, University of the Philippines and defending champion Ateneo de Manila University in a four-way tie at no. 3 spot in the standings behind unbeaten National University (2-0) and De La Salle University (1-0).
Eya Laure had 16 points coming off 12 kills, three kill blocks and an ace while EJ Laure finished with 12 markers in UST’s dominating win.
It was a one-sided affair as the Tigresses came out aggressive with the Laure sisters firing on all cylinders.
Caitlyn Viray had nine points after scoring only one in UST’s five-set upset loss at the hands of NU while rookie Imee Hernandez got seven markers.
“Nakabawi kami today,” said a relieved UST coach Kungfu Reyes. “Maganda service namin, although may mga lapses pa rin kami na di maiiwasan pero nai-correct naman naming. So yun ang naging team effort yung nilaro namin today so ayun nakuha namin in straight sets.”
FEU was a shadow of the team that destroyed University of the East last Tuesday.
Czarina Carandang and Jeanette Villareal scored seven each for the Lady Tamaraws. FEU had a hard time penetrating the net defense off the Tigresses after just scoring 26 attacks on 132 attempts compared to UST's 45 kills.
Sophomore Lycha Ebon was quiet with just four points for the Lady Tams.
