National University capitalized on its morale-boosting first set comeback to spoil Adamson University’s debut, 26-24, 25-14, 25-21, for its second straight win in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball on Sunday at the MOA Arena.
Audrey Paran and rookie Margot Mutshima led the way for the Lady Bulldogs’ best start so far since 2018 during the last year of Season 80 Most Valuable Player Jaja Santiago.
“Masaya kami dahil pangalawang panalo namin for this season,” said NU coach Norman Miguel. “Sobra kaming na-inspire kasi unlike last season di ba nakuha namin ‘yung first win namin matagal pa.”
“Malaking factor ‘to para sa players naming,” he added. “Malaking morale boost para sa kanila to work harder towards the succeeding games namin.”
Paran finished with 15 points off 10 attacks, three aces and two kill blocks while Mutshima had seven attacks, three aces and three kill blocks for NU.
The Lady Bulldogs, who came off an inspiring five-set win over University of Sto. Tomas last Wednesday, started off a bit shaky and even trailed, 22-24, in the opening frame sparking a four-point counter attack to steal the set. MJ Igao committed a service error before Paran scored an ace followed by an attack by Ivy Lacsina that gave NU a 25-24 setpoint advantage. Antonette Adolfo sent her attack out as the Lady Bulldogs took the first frame.
With momentum on their side, NU raced to double digit lead in the second and sustained their fiery game to humble the Lady Falcons, who made their presence felt during the off season.
Trisha Genesis added 12 points with all coming off 11 attacks while Lorene Toring got 11 markers for Adamson.
