Nico Almendras and skipper James Natividad took over the scoring role in the two-time defending champion National University's 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 victory over Adamson University in the UAAP Season 82 men's volleyball tournament Sunday at the MOA Arena.
The duo combined for 25 of the Bulldogs 41 attack points in their second straight win in as many games for a hold of the lead while spoiling the Falcons'debut.
Almendras had 16 points including 14 kills and added 18 excellent receptions for the NU, which won its 18th straight game since last season. Natividad provided 12 markers while setter Owa Retamar dished out 16 excellent sets with four points and six digs for the Bulldogs.
"Sana magtuluy-tuloy lang ang ginagalaw namin," said NU coach Dante Alinsunurin, who praised his wards' performance but expressed concern on their 21 miscues. "'Yung mga unforced errors namin, sa susunod ay ma-correct namin. Siyempre nagpapasalamat din kami sa galaw ng mga bata. Importante lang talaga ay may focus sa ginagawa."
Adamson kept the third set close after getting overran by the Bulldogs in the first two frames only to come up short in the end.
Francis Casas and George Labang scored nine points each in a lost cause for the Falcons.
