Two weeks ago, Far Eastern University opened up its Alabang campus as an extension of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
Now, the details have been concretized - and FEU-Alabang is already housing RITM's administrative and technical staff as well as outsourced services personnel for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila.
The RITM is the state-run research facility at the forefront of the fight against the continuing COVID-19 crisis.
In FEU-Alabang, just 300m away, its health workers will find 50 beds and a 12-seater lounge as well as shower, toilet, and locker facilities.
"FEU-Alabang is doing everything it can to support RITM by offering our gym to be a temporary living space for their frontliners. We will continue to do our part as members of this community," senior executive director Benson Tan said.
The green and gold school is also ensuring safety by requiring each and every person to go through disinfection and thermal scanning before entering the premises.
Aside from the temporary home, RITM will receive aid from its Muntinlupa neighbor in the form of meals for all of its workforce from May 1 to 7.
