Dave Ildefonso will wear the blue and white once more in UAAP 84
Dave Ildefonso’s shining star would have to be dimmed for quite a while as he will be forced to sit out next season after transferring to Ateneo de Manila University.
The 6-foot-3 swingman had taken the league by storm in his first two years as a National University Bulldog before deciding to return to Katipunan.
Ildefonso finished high school in Ateneo and won a championship as a Blue Eaglet.
Now, he joins a team that had just completed a season sweep and claimed a three-peat.
Of course, the 20-year-old will not be there just yet for the Blue Eagles’ title defense in UAAP 83 as that will be his year of residency.
Whatever it is, though, he is just grateful to be back in blue and white. “It’s just a great feeling. Yun lang talaga,” he answered when asked about his transfer in an online question-and-answer session organized by Hoops Coaches International last Friday.
He then continued through chuckles, “At least, when I’m on the court again, I won’t have to think about defending them.”
For his part, SJ Belangel, the floor leader of that Ateneo Jrs. champion team, is only looking forward to reconnecting with Ildefonso. “Sobrang saya na kasama na ulit namin si Dave. Yung struggles and sarap namin in winning a championship, masarap balikan lalo na ngayong bumalik na si Dave,” he said.
Jason Credo, another ex-Eaglet turned full-fledged Eagle, could only agree. As he put it, “Being together again, sobrang saya namin na magkakasama at maglalaro na kami with each other.”
