Boost from beau Jeanine pushed Jeron to the dean's list
JT got the best out of JT.

Jeron Teng is a lifetime legend in Taft Avenue.

With two championships and two Finals MVPs, there's no question that the 6-foot-3 forward made his mark in the storied basketball program of De La Salle University.

The court wasn't the only place he made his mark on, however, as he also achieved inside the classroom - especially in his later years taking up Business Management.

The key to that? Beau Jeanine Tsoi.

"Sobrang thankful ako kay Jeanine kasi she really gave me the guidance, really led me to the right path," Teng told Migs Bustos. "Mino-motivate niya ako to do better. She encouraged me to try na maging Dean's List and that's what I did."

He appeared on Bustos' Off the Record last Saturday alongside Renren Ritualo to promote La Salle's Kada-Uno initiative that hopes to help those in need in the continuing COVID-19 crisis.

Just to be clear, though, the former King Archer valued his studies long before he got together with Tsoi. As he put it, "Growing up sa Xavier, very strict kasi sa studies dun so when I entered La Salle, ganun pa rin. 'Di ko pinabayaan studies ko."

In fact, Teng actually took the DLSU-College Entrance Test (CET) alongside his batchmates in Xavier and ultimately got his first course of choice.

Apparently, that fact quite caught team management by surprise. "Nung nire-recruit nila ako tapos nag-agree na ako, edi sabi nila, 'Mag-entrance test ka with the rest of the athletes.' Sabi ko sa kanila, 'Brother, nag-DLSU-CET na ako and may course na ako,'" he shared.

He then continued, "Nagulat ata sila kasi bihira ata yun. I took the test kasama yung ibang (high school) students and fortunately, nakapasa naman ako ang nakuha course na gusto ko."

Still, it was his significant other who intensified his already burning fire in terms of academics. "Nung naging kami na ni Jeanine, nasa DL na ako nun. She got the best out of me," he said.
