"Masasabi mo talagang it made our brotherhood stronger." — Jeron Teng on the UAAP Season 76 Finals against his brother Jeric.
The UAAP Season 76 Finals was easily one of the most highly-anticipated championship rounds in recent history.
For one, it was the return of the glorious UST-La Salle rivalry that dominated the 1990s all the way to the early 2000s.
For two, it had the added element and intrigue of blood vs. water as brothers Jeric and Jeron Teng starred for the Growling Tigers and Green Archers respectively.
On one corner was Jeric, UST's graduating senior that wanted a title before going out and also to redeem the Growling Tigers' Finals loss the season before.
The other corner featured Jeron, the second-year forward who was La Salle's present and future.
"Yung experience na yun for us, very unforgettable eh," Jeron said on 2OT with PBA broadcasters Magoo Marjon and Carlo Pamintuan.
"Masasabi mo talagang it made our brotherhood stronger," he added.
The UAAP Season 76 Finals delivered, with UST taking a close Game 1 win before La Salle bounced back to set up sudden death.
In Game 3, the Green Archers overcame a 15-point deficit in the second half to take the lead late but it was somehow the Growling Tigers that had the chance to win in regulation.
Come overtime, La Salle outlasted UST to win the title.
"During that time, syempre we wanted to win talaga for our school," Jeron said.
"We're both competitive eh. Walang bigayan, laro talaga. We wanted to win," he added.
Even under the intense pressure of trying to win the UAAP Finals, the brothers sure handled it pretty well.
In the end, it was the winning brother that actually turned more emotional.
"Pagkatapos nun, tawanan na lang kami sa mga nangyayari. Ngayon napaguusapan pa rin namin, tinatawanan na lang namin," Jeron said.
"Actually nanalo nga ako but I got sad eh, right after umiyak ako. I thought I'd be happy to win my first championship but naiyak ako kasi naawa ako sa brother ko, it was his last year eh. Yung parang mixed emotions na yun. Then yung brother ko naman, natuwa for me kasi nag-champion na ako," Jeron added.
