Triple Crown Tams

September 09, 2017

For two consecutive seasons, Far Eastern University, one of the winningest institutions in the UAAP, extended their dominance onto the football pitch as they bagged back-to-back triple crowns, with the men’s, women’s, and juniors programs claiming the top prizes in their respective tournaments back in UAAP Season 76 and UAAP Season 77.

After a three-year title drought, the FEU men’s football program, led by season MVP Paolo Bugas, finally regained the championship in Season 76, while their female counterparts led by season MVP Mae Sullano scored their second-consecutive title, and the juniors team picked up their fourth-straight championship with MVP Janryl Balauenco and Rookie of the Year Earl Laguerta leading the charge.

The following season, the Green-and-Gold continued to dominate on pitch, as the men’s squad, led by the likes of Bugas, Eric Giganto, Arnel Amita, and senior Jhan Melliza led the Tamaraws to a second straight title. The women’s team, who had gone back-to-back in three different occasions, managed to secured their first ever three-peat in team history, while the juniors continued to dominate the field with their unparalleled fifth-straight championship.

While the triple-crown streak lasted only two seasons, the impressive display of football dominance helped establish FEU as a legitimate powerhouse when it comes to the pitch.
