Maroon and Greens to Parrots to Fighting Maroons

The University of the Philippines' varsity teams were once known as the Maroon and Greens. In the late 1930s, schools started to adopt mascots and State U's squads were called the UP Parrots since the school had a parrot as its mascot. The moniker UP Parrots was later changed to the UP Fighting Maroons when the parrot was dropped as the team mascot.
