Both professional wrestling fans and avid mixed martial arts followers have been anticipating the debut of CM Punk.
Since it was formally announced in December 2014, Punk (Phil Brooks in real life) got both support and hatred from fans and fellow fighters. Most of the backlash was rooted from the fact that he has absolutely zero experience in MMA, but was still signed by the world’s most prominent promotion company.
For his part, however, Punk got himself into a formidable team in Milwaukee’s Roufusport Academy, where he trains alongside former world lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and current world welterweight champion Ben Askren, to name a few.
He was slated to make his debut at the end of 2015, but a shoulder injury derailed the said plans. The company then made its efforts to find Punk his first opponent, through an online show entitled “Looking for a Fight”.
In the said show, company president Dana White found Mickey Gall, a fighter with a 1-0 record. Gall called out Punk in the said show, in which White was pleased about. He did, however, stipulate that Gall should win his first fight in the Octagon, which was slated for Saturday night (Sunday morning, PHT).
Gall did fulfill his end of the deal by defeating opponent Mike “The Truth” Jackson by submission, within 45 seconds of the first round.
Punk, of course, was in attendance, where he actually went face-to-face with his future opponent inside the cage.
The date of CM Punk’s debut fight has yet to be announced.
