Cagayan Valley takes SVL Open Conference third place trophy
Blackout --- Cagayan Valley takes the third place award after vanquishing Meralco.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas pounded from every angle leading the Cagayan Valley Lady Rising Suns to a third place finish at the expense of Meralco Power Spikers, 25-14, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, Sunday in Game 2 of their best-of-three series in the 12th Shakey's V-League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The lefty product of University of Sto. Tomas and a reserve player in the Singapore Southeast Asian Games-bound national team smashed 19 kills in her 21-point outburst for the last season's runnerup, who salvaged a consolation prize after losing to the defending champion Philippine Army in the crucial round robin semifinals closing match.

Janine Marciano scored 16 points while Rosemarie Vargas added 15 for the Lady Rising Suns, who swept all their four meetings with Meralco.

Cagayan Valley took the series opener last Thursday in a 25-23, 25-21, 25-23, rout.

Cha Cruz paced the Power Spikers with 15 point aided by Stephanie Mercado’s 10.

Abigail Marano was limited to only six points for Meralco, who leapt high this tournament after a winless outing in last year’s reinforced conference.
