ON TO THE NEXT.
Cherry Rondina and Patty Orendain of Foton cruised past Petron XCS’s Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Bang Pineda to sweep the elimination round of the 2016 Philippine Super Liga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup.
With its easy 21-9, 21-8 win on Saturday at MOA Sands by the Bay, the Rondina-Orendain duo barged into the quarterfinals still holding a spotless slate.
Showing no signs of wear after the match, the fan favorite from University of Sto. Tomas said, “In-enjoy lang po namin. Wala naman kaming secret – communication at teamwork lang talaga.”
While Foton topped Group C with a 3-0 record, Petron XCS will still make the playoffs at 2-1.
Meanwhile, Nene Bautista and Jovelyn Gonzaga also made sure RC Cola Army A remained unblemished heading into the next round by upending the Meralco tandem of April Ross Hingpit and Jonafer San Pedro, 21-17, 21-16.
Gaining both confidence and momentum for a title push, Gonzaga said, “Unti-unting nagagawa na namin ang gusto namin. Mas satisfied kami, pero alam ko na may iwo-workout pa kami.” She and partner Bautista were the best in Group D with a 3-0 standing.
Also entering the quarterfinals are the pairs of Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza (Far Eastern University-Petron) and Pau Genido and Florence Madulid (Standard Insurance Navy A).
