Jasmin Nabor is already embracing her new role as National University’s playmaker.

The incoming sophomore returned to a position she played back in high school after the Lady Bulldogs’ top setter Rica Diolan decided to transfer to another school.

And if her performance in NU’s debut in the 13th V-League will be used as a test, head coach Roger Gorayeb gave her an oustanding grade.

“Nakakatuwa si Jas kasi nadadala niya ang team,” said Gorayeb.

Nabor showed an all-around performance by dishing 31 excellent sets to go with her 10 points, including four blocks, to help the Lady Bulldogs silence the Laoag Power Smashers, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

It was Nabor’s first playmaking stint in college, after a brief duty as setter in high school, and she admitted that she was jittery during the transition.

“Nape-pressure pa po kasi noong first year, second year (high school) naging setter ako pero hindi naman po ganoon katutok parang ‘yung play ko noon set lang sa open tapos quick. Tapos ilang months lang po ako naturuan,” said Nabor, who added that when Diolan came in for NU’s high school team she was placed as a utility spiker up until her freshman year in college.

Nabor knows she has a big shoe to fill in for a team that has a dangerous hitter in Fil-Japanese Risa Sato and a powerful middle hitter in 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago but the she’s taking everything one step at a time.
