NU-Laoag match opens V-League action
The National University Lady Bulldogs take on the Laoag Power Smashers to open the 13th V-League action.

National University tests its mettle against the Laoag Power Smashers to open their campaign in the 13th V-League Open Conference Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Bulldogs and Power Smashers collide in the curtain-raiser slated at 4:00 p.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.

Looking for a follow up after winning the Collegiate Conference crown last year, NU will be banking on 6-foot-5 middle blocker Jaja Santiago, hitter Jorelle Singh, Aiko Urdas and Filipino-Japanese Risa Sato, who saw action in the 2015 Asian U-23 Championship.

This is Sato’s first game with the Lady Bulldogs since transferring to the Roger Gorayeb-mentored squad after an unsuccessful attempt to enter Ateneo de Manila.

NU’s toughness will be tested as it lost a reliable leader and scorer in Myla Pablo, who is playing for Pocari Sweat, and setters Ivy Perez and Asi Soliven to graduation and an exodus of players including Rica Diolan who decided to transfer to a school and top libero Bia General.

And it won’t be an easy task taking on a team composed of a selection of the best UAAP and NCAA players.

Laoag under Nes Pamilar will be bannered by Adamson stars Jema Galanza, Mylene Paat and Fenela Emnas with Far Eastern University’s Wenneth Eulalio, Arellano U libero Eunice Galang with veteran setter Chi Saet serving as team captain.
