Laoag eyes rebound win against rookie team Iriga
Laoag looks to regroup and rebound from their opening day loss.

Laoag looks to bounce back big time after a disappointing loss to open their campaign in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Open Conference.

The Power Smashers take on another newcomer Iriga on Monday at The Arena in San Juan for a chance to barge in the win column and erase a four-set loss to National University.

Game time is set at 6:00 p.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on

Laoag absorbed a 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, loss to the Lady Bulldogs last Saturday despite the efforts of Adamson stars Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza.

The duo combined for 23 of the Power Smashers 48 attack points but an atrocious 30 errors and difficulty in closing out a set led to Laoag’s downfall.

Paat scored 16 points while Galanza had 14 markers in their last match but the duo need more support from the rest of the crew.

Iriga, meanwhile, wants to make an early impact as the Camarines Sur squad debuts in the league.

The Bicolanas are led by seasoned playmaker Shyrra Cabriana, who won the 90th NCAA Best Setter award playing for Perpetual Help.

Cabriana also played for Perpetual-Fourbees in last year’s V-League Open Conference.
