Philippine Air Force cruised to its second straight win.
Philippine Air Force easily gunned down the Baguio Summer Spikers despite a quiet outing of the Jet Spikers’ top recruit Dell Palomata Saturday to score their second straight win.
It was veteran Joy Cases that carried most of the scoring load this time to lead the Jet Spikers past the Summer Spikers, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, in the 13th V-League at The Arena in San Juan.
The former Lyceum of the Philippines University star finished with 12 points, all from attacks, while Judy Ann Caballejo had eight markers for Air Force, which remained unscathed with 2-0 win-loss record.
Davao star Neneng Tapic and Iari Yongco scored seven points each for the Jet Spikers, who pummeled the defense of the Summer Spikers with 42 kills and eight service aces. Yongco and Caballejo played superb net defense with two kill blocks each from the squad’s total of seven.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila na every game is sa championship game e so lahat sila nagi-step up. Kaya nagko-contribute silang lahat,” said Air Force coach Jasper Jimenez.
Palomata, who debuted with 16 points against Laoag, was silence to only four points in just two sets of action.
The Summer Spikers, who played without head coach Clarissa Tolentino because of a prior commitment, absorbed their second loss in as many outings after a 22-25, 17-25, 24-26, defeat at the hands of another provincial team Iriga last Wednesday.
Mary Ann Atuban and skipper Krissian Tsuchiya led Baguio with eight and six points, respectively.
