DESPERATE TIMES: University of the Philippines is looking to keep its flickering semifinals bid alive.
Two teams desperately looking to notch their first win collide on Wednesday in the 13th V-League at The Arena in San Juan.
The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons and the Baguio Summer Spikers take center court with the same target to barge in the win column after dropping their respective first two assignments.
Opening serve is at 6:00 p.m. and will be aired live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.
Both teams are trying to avoid a third straight defeat that will bury them further down the cellar. Another loss will bring the unfortunate squad on the brink of elimination in the race for the semifinals seats.
The Lady Maroons are coming off a sorry, 25-27, 19-25, 17-25, loss to league-leading Philippine Air Force two days ago.
UP squandered a four-point lead and two set point advantages in the opening frame and never recovered their confidence from there.
Reigning UAAP Rookie of the Year Isa Molde continues to struggle on the offensive end with another seven-point output while Diana Carlos and veterans Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon are all also as cold.
Baguio is also having a hard time snaring a win.
The Summer Spikers absorbed a 15-25, 19-25, 18-25, whooping at the hands of Air Force last Saturday, never really getting in the groove to mount a resistance.
Skipper Krissian Tsuchiya was limited to only six points after scoring 12 in Baguio’s straight-set setback against Iriga while Carmela Dicksen had five.
