IEM wrecks Sta. Elena for back-to-back wins

Greg Dolor led four other players in double figures as Instituto Estetico Manila grabbed its second straight win against winless Sta. Elena Construction, 18-25, 25-23, 25-17, 29-27, Wednesday in the 2nd Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The Far Eastern University hitter smashed 15 kills and four kill blocks for a game-high 19-point output for IEM, which drew a step closer to a spot in the semifinals with 2-0 win-loss record behind league-leading Cignal (3-0).

Jeffrey Jimenez finished with 14 markers, skipper Edan Canlas had 14 while Michael Conde and Jason Canlas had 10 points each for the Phoenix Volley Masters. Manolo Refugia orchestrated the fluid offense of IEM with 58 excellent sets that the Volley Masters converted to 59 vicious kills.

The Wrecking Boys dropped to their second defeat in a row tied with Philippine Navy and are in danger of missing the cut in the Final Four race.

Joven Camaganakan led Sta. Elena with 17 points while Ace Mandani and former National University ace Peter Torres registered 12 points each.
