University of the Philippines barged in the win column for the first time after three tries.
University of the Philippines bucked a slow start for a taste of its first win after two losses in the 13th V-League Open Conference at the expense of the Baguio Summer Spikers, 21-25, 27-25, 25-14, 25-13, Wednesday night at The Arena in San Juan.
Justine Dorog and 78th UAAP Rookie of the Year Isa Molde finally woke up of their scoring slump to lead the Lady Maroons to a tie with Iriga, National University and Laoag Power Smashers.
Dorog scored all her 13 points from kills while Molde finished with 11 markers for UP. Nicole Tiamzon had 11 points in three sets of action and Diana Carlos smashed all her 10 markers from powerful attacks for the Diliman-based squad.
The Lady Maroons barged in the win column but head coach Jerry Yee was far from satisfied.
“Same as the first two games, ano kami e, naka-vacation mode. Sorry to say, ‘yun lang ang rate ko,” the mentor said. “Well, half the effort nand’yan. Kumikilos and what we talked about they tried to do pero hindi buo ang effort kaya nakaka-frustrate.”
“Heto mukhang gusto pa naming ipatalo ang game pero at least na-realize nila na medyo kailangang bumawi,” added Yee.
UP in the second set squandered two set point advantages before holding off the comeback attempt of Baguio to equalize. The Lady Maroons took advantage of their momentum to control the next two frames.
Krissian Tsuchiyta had 13 points while Carmela Dicksen had 12 but their efforts were not enough to save the Summer Spikers from their third straight loss in as many outings.
