Sta. Elena hammered its second straight win and secured at least a playoff for a semifinals spot.
Sta. Elena Construction fought back from two sets down to eke out a tough 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-11 victory against the Bounty Fresh Soaring Griffins to secure at least a semifinals seat playoff Saturday in the 2nd Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The troika of Joven Camaganakan, Peter Torres and Berlin Paglinawan delivered the goods for the Wrecking Balls’ second straight win to improve to 2-2 win-loss record at fourth spot.
The trio finished with 12 points each with Torres and Paglinawan splitting 20 spikes out of the team’s total of 45 attack points for Sta. Elena, which will cap its eliminations campaign on June 29 against the unbeaten and semis-bound Cignal.
Skipper Rocky Honrade and Arjay Onia finished with eight markers for the Wrecking Balls, who were outgunned in spikes by Bounty fresh, 45-61, but got 47 free points out of the atrocious numbers of errors committed by the Soaring Griffins.
Bounty Fresh officially bowed out of contention after absorbing its fourth loss in as many outings.
Jeric Gacutan led three other Soaring Griffins that scored in double figures with game-high 20 points, all but one coming off kills. Jason Sarabia had 13 markers while JC David and Philip Bagalay registered 11 points each.
Bagalay contributed on the defensive end with 21 excellent receptions and seven digs only to see all his efforts go down the drain.
