University of the Philippines and National University collide in a crucial match that will determine their fate in the last semifinals seat race.
National University and University of the Philippines faceoff in a battle for survival Saturday in the 13th V-League Open Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
With three semifinals spots already occupied, the no. 4 seat is a three-way tossup between the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Maroons and idle Laoag Power Smashers.
UP has the roughest road to the Final Four as it needs to win all its remaining games including their final elims match against Laoag on Monday.
NU, meanwhile needs only to win against the Lady Maroons to secure at least a semis spot playoff in case Laoag defeats UP. A win by the Lady Bulldogs coupled by a victory by the Lady Maroons over the Power Smashers will give NU the last semis ticket.
The semis bid scenario of the two protagonists will have a clear picture after their 4:00 p.m. match.
The Lady Bulldogs are tied with Laoag with 3-3 win-loss record at fourth to fifth spot while the Lady Maroons are at sixth place with a 2-3 slate.
NU is coming off a 25-10, 25-19, 25-11, win against eliminated Baguio Summer Spikers last Monday.
Jaja Santiago, Jorelle Singh, returning Aiko Urdas and setter Jasmin Nabor are all expected to step up big time to keep NU’s semis hopes alive.
The Diliman-based squad, meanwhile, rolled past Iriga, 25-17, 25-17, 25-19, the last time out and are also looking to score its first back-to-back wins in the tournament.
UP will bank on Kathy Bersola, 78th UAAP Rookie of the Year Isa Molde, Justine Dorog and Diana Carlos to survive its first of two do-or-die games to advance in the next round.
The game will air at 8:30 p.m. on ABS-CBN Sports+Action channel 23 with streaming on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague
