Petron zooms to its third straight win in as many outings to hold the solo lead.
Defending champion Petron kept its unbeaten record intact and moved up to solo lead after sweeping the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-14, 25-13, 27-25, Tuesday in the 2016 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Tri-Activ Spikers cruised in the first to sets but needed to stave off the comeback attempt of the HD Spikers in the third frame to bag their third straight win in as many outings.
“Yung thirs set maraming kaming unforced errors so yun lang ang medyo naging problema namin pero na-manage naman nitong huli,” said Petron coach George Pascua, whose wards will have a long break before their marquee showdown with RC Cola-Army.
Former University of Sto. Tomas star Aiza Maizo-Pontillas scored 10 of her 11 points from spikes while Ces Molina nailed nine kills in her total of 11 markers for Petron.
Petron looked to close down the match with a 22-18 lead only to see Cignal tie it at 23. The HD Spikers saved a match point and even went ahead when Molina’s attack went wide. Molina tied it at 25 before scoring a block on Mela Tunay.
Jannine Navarro committed an error as Cignal absorbed its third straight loss to tie another winless team Amy’s down the cellar.
Cherry Vivas and Tunay scored six apiece for the HD Spikers.
