Philippine Superliga president Ramon 'Tats' Suzara will announce the first two players that made the cut for the team that will represent the country in the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.
Philippine Superliga president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara will hand the first two of seven ‘golden tickets’ to players that will make the team that will represent the country in the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship on October 18 to 23 at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
Suzara will personally announce the names of the pair who made the cut for the PHI squad composed of seven local volleybelles and seven foreign players set to carry the nation’s pride against seven of the world’s best club teams.
“On Thursday before the second game, I will hand the ‘golden ticket’ to the first two lucky players,” said Suzara told a couple reporters Tuesday night during the PSL All-Filipino Conference playdate at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Games on Thursday are between Standard Insurance-Navy and RC Cola-Army at 6:00 p.m. while F2 Logistics and Generika will clash at 4:00 p.m.
But Suzara, who is also the marketing and development committee chairman of the AVC and member of the FIVB, was mum when asked if the first two players will come from any of the teams playing on Thursday.
PSL invited 27 players from all 10 All-Filipino Conference teams to participate in the tryout last Friday at The Arena in San Juan. RC Cola-Army’s Tina Salak, a veteran setter who played for the national team that won bronze in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, begged off from the list of candidates and was instead assigned as part of the coaching staff.
The team will be pitted against seven of the world’s best clubs including 2016 European Champion Pomi Casalmaggiore of Italy, 2015 Asian Champion Bangkok Glass of Thailand, 2016 South American powerhouse Rexona Ades Rio of Brazil, Volero Zurich of Switzerland, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul and Vakifbank Istanbul of Turkey. The last wildcard entry is yet to be named.
