No excuses -- Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella
I’m not making any excuses, tinalo talaga nila kami so fatigue or injuries wala na dapat talaga (excuses) ‘yun --- Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella

Fatigue, injuries and the wear and tear of playing three games in five days took its toll on Pocari Sweat.

Lady Warriors assistant coach Rommel Abella said that the team was drained of energy because of various factors but is not making it as an excuse after their 13th V-League Open Conference best-of-three semifinals series-opening loss to BaliPure Purest Water Defenders.

Pocari Sweat absorbed its second straight loss after six straight wins, bowing down to the same team they met in the elims just last Saturday in straight sets, 20-25, 19-25, 24-26, Wednesday night at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Warriors played and lost to Air Force last Monday to cap their elims campaign.

“I wouldn’t discount na fatigue nga ‘yung factor nu’ng ganoon pero sabi ko nga sa ganitong stage ng tournament dapat marunong tayong mag-overcome ng mga ganoong klaseng factor,” he said.

Myla Pablo, who averaged 16.4 points in the elims, was limited to a quiet eight-point night while team captain Michele Gumabao played while nursing an abdominal strain but managed to score 11.

“’Yung kay Myla kasi over fatigue and nangyari sa kanya,” said Abella of Pablo.

So a'yun I guess nagpatong-patong na rin siguro ang kanyang pagod.”

Pablo was hospitalized 2:00 a.m. Tuesday and was given medication. She was discharged after two hours.

“Nanigas lang ang binti ko sa sobrang pagod na rin kasi dire-diretso ang laro at training pero OK naman ako,” said Pablo, who was sidelined for two games because of a back injury before getting back in action last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Gumabao played her third match since her return to action after skipping two games to rest her injury.

The team official said that for now all they can do is to suck it all up and prepare hard to extend the series on Saturday. Game 3 if necessary is on Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

“Pero nandoon na tayo. I’m not making any excuses, tinalo talaga nila kami so fatigue or injuries wala na dapat talaga (excuses) ‘yun,” according to Abella.
