Cignal books a ticket to the Finals against Philippine Air Force.
Undefeated Cignal and Philippine Air Force forged a championship showdown after taking down their respective semifinals rivals in sweeping fashion Saturday in the 2nd Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The No. 1 seed HD Spikers will carry a huge momentum as they extend their tournament winning streak to seven with a 25-23, 25-16, 25-17, disposal of Sta. Elena Construction Wrecking Balls in Game two of their best-of-three semifinals series.
De La Salle star Raymark Woo exploded with 22 points including 19 spikes while former Ateneo de Manila star and Season 78 UAAP Finals Most Valuable Player Ysay Marasigan finished with 11 marker for Cignal.
The HD Spikers will open their best-of-three championship showdown on July 13 against the Airmen, which easily destroyed Insituto Estetico Manila, 25-15, 25-21, 34-32, behind five players scoring in double figures.
Howard Mojica scattered 12 kills for a total of 15 points while Jeffrey Malabanan and Reyson Fuentes finished with 12 markers each. Rodolfo Labrador and Fauzi Ismail each had 11 points with veteran playmaker Jessie Lopez dishing out 32 excellent sets with three digs for Air Force.
Sta. Elena, which was led by Arjay Onia’s 11 points, and IEM, which got 14 markers from Greg Dolor, figure in a best-of-three battle for third series.
In case the championship series is decided in two games and the battle for third goes to a Game 3, the third place winner will be decided by a tiebreak.
