We gave our best also but definitely nagkulang nga kami and marami kaming lapses this game, maraming miscommunication, maraming errors -- Alyssa Valdez
Miscommunication and errors were the main culprit in BaliPure’s five-set loss to Pocari Sweat in their best-of-three showdown for the last championship berth in the 13th V-League Open Conference
The Purest Water Defenders and Lady Warriors will dispute the right to face Philippine Air Force in the race-to-two Finals starting July 13 on Monday in a do-or-die series decider after BaliPure dropped a 23-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-21, 8-15, thriller in Game 2 Saturday night at The Arena in San Juan.
“Our errors made us lose that game,” said Water Defenders playing coach Charo Soriano.
It was the second time BaliPure bowed down to Pocari Sweat in five sets after losing in their eliminations meeting a week ago.
The Water Defenders took the semis series opener, 25-20, 25-19, 26-24, last Wednesday.
"They really gave us a good fight,” said BaliPure star hitter Alyssa Valdez, who finished with 24 points. “We gave our best also but definitely nagkulang nga kami and marami kaming lapses this game, maraming miscommunication, maraming errors.”
The Water Defenders committed 30 errors with the last being a net touch violation on Alyssa Valdez that gave Pocari Sweat a 12-8 lead in the fourth set.
“I think they (BaliPure players) were too aggressive, they were too gigil. A lot of net errors that normally doesn’t happen,” Soriano said. “And the last point was a service ace and that was clearly a miscommunication from our defenders, they were three there and they could’ve easily taken that.”
The Lady Warriors were also able to contain BaliPure’s hitters with solid net defense that ked to 10 kill blocks.
Water Defenders found it hard to stop Myla Pablo as the National University product scored 26 points.
“Pocari really played a good game and we have to give it to them also. There were a lot of kills coming from Myla Pablo, even her back row attack,” Soriano added.
“Kudos to their team but again it’s a best-of-three series playoffs is still not over yet and we have Monday to prove talaga who’s the better team.”
