Undefeated Pocari Sweat takes on Philippine Air Force in a attempt to sweep the 7-game elimination round.
Pocari Sweat guns to complete a sweep of the 13th V-League Open Conference’s 7-game eliminations on Monday when the Lady Warriors take on Philippine Air Force at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The unbeaten Lady Warriors stake their pristine record in the match that will also determine which team will occupy the top seed in the best-of-three semis opening on Wednesday.
Opening serve is at 6:00 p.m. aired live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.
Pocari Sweat holds a 6-0 win-loss card while the Dell Palomata-less Jet Spikers are at second place with a 5-1 mark.
The Lady Warriors are stepping in the match oozing with high morale after etching one of the greatest comebacks in league history last Saturday against crowd-favorite BaliPure.
Returning Myla Pablo and Elaine Kasilag showed the way as Pocari Sweat erased an embarrassing whipping in the second set with a thrilling, 21-25, 6-25, 26-24, 27-25, 19-17, escape over the Purest water Defenders.
Pablo, who returned to action after missing the team’s last two games because of a back injury, finished the more than two hours match with 24 points while Kasilag contributed with 20.
The Lady Warriors this time face an Air Force side missing the services of the 6-foot-3 Palomata, who returned to her studies at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod.
Still, Pocari Sweat assistant coach Rommel Abella is wary of the Jet Spikers capabilities.
“Sundalo ang mga ‘yan, hindi yan basta-basta nagpapatalo at matagal na ring magkakasama ang mga ‘yan,” he said.
Air Force shot down Iriga, 25-23, 25-17, 25-18, last Wednesday for its second straight win since absorbing a straight sets loss to Laoag.
The Jet Spikers will bank on veterans Judy Ann Caballejo, Joy Cases and Jocemer Tapic to carry the team past Pocari Sweat.
The winner of the match will take on the survivor between University of the Philippines and Laoag in the curtain-raiser while the loser sets up a dangerous date with the Alyssa Valdez-led BaliPure.
