Whoever comes to the game na mas determined, mas gustong manalo ‘yun ang mananalo -- Pocari Sweat assistant coach Rommel Abella
Throw away the strategy, game plans and adjustments out the window.
This do-or-die match between Pocari Sweat and BaliPure for the right to advance in the 13th V-League Open Conference Finals will be decided by which team wants it more.
The Lady Warriors stretched the best-of-three semifinals series against the Water Defenders to a rubbermatch on Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Game time is set at 6:00 p.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.
“Sa Monday heart na lang ‘yan e. So whoever comes to the game na mas determined, mas gustong manalo ‘yun ang mananalo,” said Pocari Sweat assistant coach Rommel Abella.
The Lady Warriors showed theirs last Saturday in a five-set thriller 25-23, 13-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-8, that left the jampacked arena electrified.
BaliPure won the series opener last Wednesday in straight sets.
“Ang mga adjustments, ang mga X and Os, kumbaga 'yung mga plays very minor na lang 'yan e. 'Yung heart na lang ang magpapanalo sa amin sa Monday,” said Abella.
Former National University standout Myla Pablo bounced back from an eight-point performance in Game 1 with a 26-point explosion to breathe new life to the Lady Warriors’ championship berth bid.
“Pukpukan na ‘yan. Do-or-die na ‘yan kaya kailangang manalo,” said Pablo. “Sana maganda ang laban namin. Sana maka-receive kami and maka-block ng maayos.”
Pocari Sweat also won in five sets against BaliPure in the eliminations at the PhilSports Arena.
Abella said that they need to improve on their service receive. The Water Defenders averaged 10 aces against the Lady Warriors in their previous three meetings.
“Ang tingin kasi namin, lapses talaga ang nagdidiin sa amin so if we can just minimize ‘yung mga lapses namin, siguro hindi naman sa madali, pero siguro four sets puwede na,” he said.
The survivor of the series will set up a best-of-three Finals series against the Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers starting July 13.
Air Force defeated both squad in the eliminations.
