Air Force and Cignal lock horns on Monday to begin their best-of-three title series.
Undefeated Cignal and Philippine Air Force open their best-of-three 2nd Spikers’ Turf Open Conference championship series on Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The HD Spikers and Airmen clash in the scheduled 4:00 p.m. showdown looking to draw first blood before the league takes a long break.
The match will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/spikersturf.
Cignal racked up seven straight victories including a four-set win over Air Force, 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16, last June 4 in their elims faceoff.
Top seed in the semis, the HD Spikers made quick work on Sta. Elena Construction sweeping the Wrecking Balls in the best-of-three tussle. Cignal clinched a spot in the elims with an emphatic 25-23, 25-16, 25-17, demolition of Sta. Elena Construction last Saturday.
Ysay Marasigan, who scored 15 points against Air Force in the elims, and Raymark Woo are again expected to lead the HD Spikers’ assault.
The former Ateneo de Manila captain Marasigan and De La Salle skipper Woo average 13.1 and 14.1 points, respectively, in Cignal’s seven games.
Coming off a series sweep against Instituto Estetico Manila, the Airmen are raring to march into battle and settle an unfinished business with the only team that blemished their record this conference.
Air Force finished off the pesky IEM side, 25-15, 25-21, 34-32, last Saturday to forge a Finals showdown with Cignal.
It will be a shootout between the two squads with former Emilio Aguinaldo star and reigning NCAA MVP Howard Mojica and National University’s Fauzi Ismail posing as the Airmen’s big guns.
Ismail averages 14.1 points per game while Mojica has a norm of 10.2 markers per outing.
Game 2 is on July 13.
