UST's former top pair proved their worth again as the Tigers went 1-2 in the first Beach Volleyball Republic King of Sands tournament at the Mall of Asia sand court Sunday.
Kris Roy Guzman pulled one over his "big brother" Mark Alfafara to crown himself as BVR's inaugural King.
The two were UST's top men's beach volleyball pair in the UAAP until Season 77.
Guzman bested 11 other competitors including Alfafara and some other big name players like UST and UAAP legends Henry Pecana and Jayson Ramos.
The high-flying spiker out of Cebu also took home a grand prize of P20,000 aside from his new prestigious title.
Alfafara wound up second while Jeriel Apelar and Hach Gilbuena finished third and fourth respectively.
Other players in the first King of Sands were former NCAA champion Permie Bacalay, Gelo Espiritu, AJ Pareja, Dan Young, Rocky Honrade, and Guzman's current partner with the Tigers, Anthony Arbasto.
The King of Sands allows one player to partner with all his opponents in order to crown the best of the best.
Fiola Ceballos was the first Queen of Sands and was crowned last year.
