Rachel Anne Daquis is set to undergo a medical examination after hurting her left heel in RC Cola-Army's match against Foton Tornadoes.
LIPA CITY, Batangas --- RC Cola-Army hitter Rachel Anne Daquis suffered a possible tear on her left heel Thursday night and is set to undergo medical checkup on Friday to confirm the extent of the injury.
The FIVB Women’s Club World Championship-bound outside hitter walked off the court limping and never came back to action as the Lady Troopers dropped their third straight game after a painful, 25-18, 15-25, 17-25, 25-23, 9-15, loss to Foton Tornadoes in Group A second round preliminary stage of the 2016 Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at De La Salle-Lipa Sentrum here.
Daquis, who was stuck on the bench, told reporters that she was already in pain starting from the team’s elimination round match against F2 Logistics last Saturday in a five-set loss – Army’s first after six straight victories – played it through the next day in their rematch when the Lady Troopers fell in straight sets.
“Noong first game pa lang namin ng F2, patapos na 'yung game mayroon na siya rito na parang may pumitik. Noong second game namin 'di ba lumaro pa rin ako, pinilit ko,” said Daquis.
Known for her trademark hop-skip approach for an attack, Daquis said that she felt something "pop" as she landed limping.
Team physical therapist Alyssa Paula Tomas told reporters that they suspect a possible tear and scheduled her for a checkup.
“Kasi mayroon siyang bone spur dito sa may left heel niya. Ngayon kasi sobrang tight ng calf niya, nababatak sa may heel kaya sumasakit,” Tomas said. “Kanina pag-push niya may nag-pop so hindi pa namin alam. Di rin kami sure if may punit kaya hindi na siya nakabalik sa laro.
"Ipapa-ultrasound namin bukas para malaman ang findings," she added.
RC Cola-Army is winless in two games of the second round prelims phase that will determine each teams seeding in the knockout semifinals.
