Alyssa Valdez takes a new role as Ateneo de Manila's assistant coach.
Three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez is part of the lineup of the Ateneo Lady Eagles’ campaign in the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference but will be taking a different role.
Ateneo team manager Tony Boy Liao said that they decided to designate the Queen Eagle as head coach Tai Bundit’s deputy starting Monday when the former two-time UAAP champions open their campaign against Technological Institute of the Philippines at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
“We decided na ang ilalaro na lang ang ‘yung mga maglalaro ng UAAP so part na lang siya ng coaching staff,” said Liao.
Valdez is still eligible to play as a regular player based on the league rule.
Bundit initially wanted to field Valdez but the team’ management decided that it will be wiser to give more playing time to their players set to see action in UAAP Season 79 to give them exposure and confidence in their mission to get back the title they lost to bitter rival De La Salle last April in an epic three-game Finals series.
“Actually it was like this eh, after Singapore before she left for Guam nag-meeting na kami with coach Tai.
I think she’s coming today and nasabi na sa kanya,” he added.
