Rachel Anne Daquis of RC Cola-Army is out indefinitely after suffering a heel injury.
RC Cola-Army will have to face surging Foton Tornadoes in a do-or-die semifinals of the 2016 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference without one of its main weapon.
Rachel Anne Daquis is out indefinitely after sustaining a partial plantar aponeurotic tear on her left heel that would need a few days of rest.
The three-time champion Lady Troopers will march into battle set Thursday at Malolos in Bulacan without Daquis for the second straight game with the 28-year-old hitter skipping Army’s straight set loss to Petron last Saturday.
The FIVB World Club Women’s Championship-bound spiker suffered the injury last Thursday against Foton in De La Salle-Lipa in Batangas.
Known for her trademark hop-skip approach for an attack, Daquis said that she felt something “pop” as she jumped. The 2015 PSL All-Filipino Conference Most Valuable Player walked off the court limping and never came back to the game.
Daquis said that personally she thinks she can still play but head coach Kungfu Reyes as well as the management wanted her to take as good rest to prevent any aggravation.
“Kung ako ang tatanungin gusto ko makalaro sa Thursday pero syempre si coach Kungfu and ‘yung team mas pinili kung saan ako safe and maka-fully recover,” she said.
This is a big blow to the Lady Troopers’ title bid especially with Army slumping to a four-game skid.
“Rachel delivers around 15 to 17 points a night, mahirap hanapin ‘yun,” said Reyes. “(But) we just have to work hard to cover her absence offensively.”
