Lady Eagles, Lady Stags look for rebound win
The Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles gun for their first win the the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference.

San Sebastian College and Ateneo de Manila aim to bounce back from their recent losses on Saturday in their Group A match in the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Lady Eagles, runner up in last year’s edition, stumbled early in their campaign without ace hitter Alyssa Valdez as they fell victim to newcomer Technological Institute of the Philippines last Monday.

Severely undermanned with Jho Maraguinot and Bea De Leon sidelined with injuries, Ateneo behind returning Michelle Morente and Ana Gopico with Ponggay Gaston tried to carry the fight for the Lady Eagles before eventually yielding to the Lady Engineers, 24-26, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 12-15.

The Lady Eagles hope to erase the loss and regain their composure with a convincing victory over the Lady Stags in the 4:00 p.m. match that will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.

SSC-R opened its campaign with an easy win over Perpetual Help last Saturday only to fall in straight sets to the defending champion National University, 22-25, 27-29, 21-25, last Wednesday.

Two-time NCAA Most Valuable Player and Open Conference MVP Grethcel Soltones finished with 12 points in a lost cause as the Lady Stags fall to 1-1 card.

It was a painful loss but at least saw Soltones receive help from her teammates.

Katherine Villegas and Denice Lim had 12 markers each for SSC-R, which is looking to get the same numbers from the duo to ease the scoring burden from Soltones.
