University of Sto. Tomas remained unscathed after two games to take the solo lead in Group B of the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Saturday.
With top hitter Cherry Rondina back in the fold after skipping the Golden Tigresses opening day game, UST crushed the reigning NCAA College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 25-20, 25-17, 25-27, 25-17, to move a win closer from securing one of the three spots at stake to advance in the quarterfinals.
Guest player and high school star Eya Laure continued to show her deadly form with 18 points including 15 attacks while Rondina, who rested her sprained ankle in the Tigresses’ win over San Beda Lady Red Spikers, had 15 points.
The Espana-based squad rained down 51 spikes and 14 service aces with four coming from Ria Meneses, who also played her first match with UST and finished with nine markers.
CSB dropped its second straight game in as many outings and are on the brink of elimination.
Guest player Janine Navarro and Jeanette Panaga posted 14 points each for the Lady Blazers.
