Far Eastern University advances to the next round after booting out San Beda.
Far Eastern University recovered from a slow start to hurdle San Beda, 23-25, 25-6, 25-11, 25-14, Wednesday to complete the quarterfinals roster in Group B of the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Tamaraws woke up from a sloppy first frame with a mighty bounce back in the second set to turn things around and join University of Sto. Tomas and University of the Philippines on top of the group’s standings at 2-0.
Toni Rose Basas led FEU with 19 points with 16 coming off kills while Bernadeth Pons and Remy Palma scored 14 and 13 markers, respectively. Setter Kyle Negrito came off the bench to dish out 41 excellent sets on top of seven points.
“Diesel ata ang naikarga namin medyo mabagal simula,” said FEU coach Shaq Delos Santos, whose squad will face UST and UP to close the preliminary round.
“Mas nagawa lang namin ‘yung pina-practice namin at nakapag-execute mula second set,” he added.
The top three teams in each group after the prelims stage will advance in the round robin quarterfinals. They will carry over their first round record and face the teams from the other group.
San Beda fell short for the third time in three outing to bow out of contention together with College of St. Benilde.
Guest player Janine Marciano finished with eight points while Francesca Racraquin had five markers for the Lady Red Spikers, who will close their campaign on Saturday against CSB.
