Technological Institute of the Philippines and San Sebastian College battle to secure a spot in the next round.
San Sebastian College - Recoletos and Technological Institute of the Philippines clash for the first quarterfinals berth in Group A of the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Monday to close their preliminary round campaign.
Both holding a 2-1 win-loss record in a tie at second and third spot, the Lady Stags and Lady Engineers take center court at 4:00 p.m. to determine which team will join Group B quarterfinalists University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University and University of Sto. Tomas.
The game will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.
Both teams are coming off convincing wins with SSC-R ramming down Ateneo de Manila, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23, last August 6 in a game that saw the Lady Stags erase a 13-point deficit with a stunning 15-0 match-clinching rally.
Leading SSC-R are Grethcel Soltones, who is averaging 16 points per game, Denice Lim and middle blockers Katherine Villegas and Joyce Sta. Rita.
The Lady Engineers, on the other hand, destroyed Perpetual Help from the service line last Wednesday.
TIP scored 21 service aces in an easy 25-16, 25-13, 25-15, victory to rebound from its loss at the hands of group-leading defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs, who also gave SSC-R its first loss.
Guest players Mylene Paat and playmaker Chie Saet together with Alyssa Layug are expected to spearhead the Lady Engineers fight.
The loser of the match will still be assured of at least a playoff for the last of the three quarterfinals berths at stake.
