Siguro, yeah, kasi natalo kami from them last time so siguro ito na ‘yung comeback namin sa kanila at mapakita namin talaga kung anong kaya naming gawin -- Ateneo de Manila team captain Michelle Morente
Ateneo de Manila earned a chance to advance in the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference quarterfinals and most importantly a shot for revenge.
The Lady Eagles will take on Technological Institute of the Philippines on Monday in a do-or-die match for the last berth in the next round and team captain Michelle Morente is raring to get back on the court against the Lady Engineers.
“Siguro, yeah, kasi natalo kami from them last time so siguro ito na ‘yung comeback namin sa kanila at mapakita namin talaga kung anong kaya naming gawin,” said Morente, who scored 20 points in Ateneo’s 25-15, 27-25, 25-17 win agaist National University on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan to close the Group A preliminary round.
The Katipunan-based squad tied TIP at 2-2 win-loss record to force a playoff to determine which team will join NU, San Sebastian College, Far Eastern University, University of Sto. Tomas and University of the Philippines in the next phase which is a round robin stage where qualifiers from Group A take on the teams coming from Group B.
Ateneo started their prelims campaign on a sour note losing to TIP, 24-26, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 12-15, before dropping a straight sets match against SSC-R.
The Lady Eagles got the monkey off their backs with a dominating victory over Perpetual Help last week.
“Iniisip naman namin one game at a time, wala talagang pressure for experience lang talaga, kung saan kami maabot ng panalo namin eh ‘di hanggang doon,” said Morente of her rebuilding team after the departure of Alyssa Valdez. “So habang nananalo kami, go lang, laro lang kami, maging masaya kami sa loob ng court, as in wala talagang pressure.”
