Ateneo de Manila and Technological Institute of the Philippines dispute the last quarterfinals slot.
Ateneo de Manila and Technological Institute of the Philippines battle for the last quarterfinals berth in an exciting playoff that serves as a rematch of their preliminary round match in Group A of the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Monday.
The Lady Eagles forced a winner-take-all faceoff after defeating erstwhile unbeaten reigning champion National University last Saturday.
Skipper Michelle Morente led the way for last year’s runner up scoring 20 points in the Katipunan-based squad’s methodical 25-15, 27-25, 25-17 beating of the Lady Bulldogs to tie the Lady Engineers at 2-2 record.
Ateneo is looking extend its winning streak to three in the 6:00 p.m. match that will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.
TIP started the Lady Eagles’ early campaign woes with a devastating upset, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-12, last August 1.
And Ateneo is looking for payback.
“Kasi natalo kami from them last time so siguro ito na ‘yung comeback namin sa kanila at mapakita namin talaga kung anong kaya naming gawin,” said Morente.
Aside from Morente, the Lady Eagles are banking on Kim Gequillana, Bea De Leon, Ana Gopico and Ponggay Gaston to get its revenge on the Lady Engineers, who are coming off a five-set loss to San Sebastian last week.
Guest players Mylene Paat and setter Chie Saet will spearhead TIP's attempt to prove that their prelims win is no fluke.
A win by Ateneo will give the Lady Eagles a 1-1 carryover record to the quarterfinals and giving NU an added loss in its record. If TIP survives, the Lady Engineers will advance in the next round with a 0-2 card adding a win to NU’s mark.
