NO ENTRY --- Michelle Morente (no. 3) and Bea De Leon build a blockade on Technological Institute of the Philippines' Eunice Mabayao.
Ateneo de Manila University bounced back from a set down to clinch the last quarterfinals spot in a come-from-behind 16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16, playoff victory over Technological Institute of the Philippines on Monday in the 13th V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Eagles advanced to the next round with a 1-1 win-loss carryover record and exacted sweet revenge on their preliminary round tormentors. Ateneo scored their third straight victory after consecutive losses to open their campaign.
Michelle Morente scattered 21 points with 18 coming off attacks while Bea De Leon and Ana Gopico got 15 and 13 markers, respectively, for Ateneo. Morente was also effective on the defensive end with 17 digs and 10 excellent receptions.
Veteran playmaker Jia Morado had an outstanding outing with 62 excellent sets.
The Katipunan-based squad’s victory over the Lady Engineers also added one loss to quarterfinalist and defending champion National University’s record (2-1) after Ateneo defeated the Lady Bulldogs last Saturday to force a playoff for the last quarterfinals ticket.
TIP absorbed their second straight defeat and failed to duplicate their, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-12, win over Ateneo last August 1.
Alyssa Layug scored 14 points while guest player Mylene Paat finished with 12 for the Lady Engineers.
