THOMASIANS UNITE: A group of priests, deacons and seminarians from the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross in Marikina enjoying the game.
Five priests, a deacon and eight seminarians, clad in black, provided an amusing sidelight Wednesday last week in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13-Collegiate Conference as they time and again erupted in tumultuous cheers for the undermanned University of Santo Tomas squad at Philsports Arena.
They rose to their feet as one, clapped resoundingly and hollered gleefully in celebrating every point scored by the Growling Tigresses from start to finish.
“We are NCR Thomasians,” said deacon Rev. Pio Herrera.
A deacon, he explained, has already been ordained but is not yet a priest.
“We support the UST teams in all sports wherever they play if we are free, particularly our darling Cherry Rondina, the Laure sisters and the rest of the Tigresses in volleyball.”
Rev. Herrera said his group comes from the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross in Marikina and is studying Sacred Theology at the Ecclesiastical Faculties of UST.
