Shakey’s V-League Season 13-Open Conference MVP Grethcel Soltones is primed for at least two more awards this year as she shows the way in  the race for Best Scorers and Best Receivers in the ongoing V-League Collegiate Conference.

According to statistics covering the recently-concluded eliminations and released by Volleyball Information System, the powerful open spiker from San Sebastian College-Recoletos is up and away by 16 points in the Best Scorer table. She has compiled 76 points from 68 attacks, two blocks and six aces.

Trailing her are Isabel Molde of University of the Philippines with 60 points, Jaja Santiago of National University with 57, and Eya Laure of University of Santo Tomas and Mylene Paat of Technological Institute of the Philippines with 55 each.

Toni Rose Basas of Far Eastern University is next with 53 points, followed by Ateneo’s Michelle Morente with 48 and UP’s Diana Mae Carlos with 47.

Now often seen being accompanied to her games by her mom with whom she had been reunited by ABS-CBN in the last NCAA finals, Soltones is also interestingly ahead of the liberos in the Best Receivers tally. She’s credited with 35 excellent serve receptions for an efficiency rating of 41.25%.

Currently in second place is libero Gayle Rose Valez of NU with 44 excellent receives (41.11%). In third is UST’s Patricia Rasmo, another libero, with 35 receives (33.75%).

Eya Laure, guest-playing for UST, leads in the Best Spikers table with 47 spikes and a success rate of 39.83%, followed by Bernadeth Pons of FEU with 30 attacks (38.96%), and Basas also of FEU with 46 spikes (37.4%).

VIS officials said individual statistics from the eliminations, quarterfinals and up to Game 2 of the semifinal playoffs will count toward the selection of the invididual awardees. Thus, Laure is sure to lose her hold of the lead in the Best Spikers race with the elimination of the Growling Tigresses from the semis.
