National University attempts to complete a quarterfinals sweep for its formal entry to the Final Four.
Defending champion National University goes for a quarterfinals sweep when the Lady Bulldogs face University of the Philippines on Monday in the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Bulldogs won their first two games in the round robin quarters for a 3-1 carryover win-loss record to tie Far Eastern University.
A win at the scheduled 4:00 p.m. showdown with the Lady Maroons will formally hand NU the first seat in the best-of-three semifinals.
Action will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.
Six-foot-5 Jaja Santiago, Aiko Urdas, Jorelle Singh and setter Jasmine Nabor ar again expected to lead the Lady Bulldogs in their attempt to bring momentum in the next round and to avenge its four-set loss to the Lady Maroons in their elimination round of the Open Conference just two months ago.
Santiago scored 19 points while Urdas and Singh had 15 and 12 in NU’s tight 25-17, 24-26, 14-25, 25-18, 15-11, win over Far Eastern University last Wednesday.
But the Lady Bulldogs are sure to get tough resistance from the Lady Maroons.
UP opened its quarterfinals campaign with a 25-18, 14-25, 25-20, 25-18, win against the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles last Saturday.
The Diliman-based squad holds a 2-1 carryover card at solo third spot and a win will assure the Lady Maroons of at least a semis ticket playoff.
UP is banking on UAAP Season 78 rookie of the year Isa Molde, Diana Carlos, Marian Buitre and veterans Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon to take down the Lady Bulldogs.
